Rita Góbi is a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher, who is continuously exploring the styles and languages of dance. Born in Novi Sad, Serbia, graduated at Hungarian Dance Academy in Budapest. She was a participant of various international dance workshops and residency programs. Rita started her career working with several Hungarian-based dance companies and working with the film director Miklos Jancso. In 2006 she founded Gobi Dance Company. Rita is also a dance teacher at Nemes Nagy Ágnes Art Vocational School, and she regularly holds workshops in Hungary and internationally at various festivals. Her choreographies are based on intuition and experimentation, but are precisely constructed by repetitive, miniature movements and grotesque, distorted elements that are slowly and consequently transforming into a different state. She is playing with her body parts, loves the minimalism, physicality of the body and its extremes. Her way of creation is analytical, futuristic, tight. Góbi’s performances are always based on personal experiences and are often accompanied with live music or by other artists from various art fields.
Rita Góbi’s new performance presents the intermediate state of “already not here” and “not there yet”, by guiding us in the world of metamorphosis. For this production Dávid Szegő composed the music by using Morse code sounds and noise sounds, both acoustic and electronic – these are landmarks for the dance performance designed from minimalist tools which lead to a full theatrical presence.
This is a solo of great discipline, flawless from start to finish, without an iota of idleness. It is concise and compact.
Csaba Králl, critic
It is hard to talk about Góbi’s performance without talking about her, as Rita Góbi and her performance are one and the same.
Márta Péter, Tánckritika
Rita Góbi’s explosive solo dance is filled with subtle associations: it is not hard to discover a futuristic interpretation, a kind of science-fiction remake of the Dying Swan: but instead of soft and lyrical tunes, it is performed to Dávid Szegő’s harsh, repetitive and robotic noise sounds.

“Volitant” is included in the Aerowaves Twenty 18 list and also received the Rudolf Lábán Award in Hungary. The performance received the Special Prize at Festival “10 Sentidos” organized in Valencia, May 2017.
