‘What Can Be Said about Pierre’
'In 2006 within the commemorations of the World Dance Day I’ve presented a small improvisation to the sound of Gilles Deleuze’s voice giving a class on Spinoza and his concept of the three types of knowledge possible to human beings (the speech in question focuses on the first type of knowledge, the most basic one, the one in which almost everyone moves...). I manipulated the temporalities of Deleuze’s speech, but just minimally, as the speech has already some very particular temporalities. And I based my movement on insistance and grounding, a body that presses and pushes spaces and goes entirely in direction towards the ground. This proposal goes in line with many other works of mine in which multiplicities are proposed that put philosophy and intuition in interaction, as well as verbal and non-verbal, rational and irrational. The Escena Contemporánea Festival saw on Youtube the precarious video that can be found there with an excerpt of that experience, got interested and proposed me to develop and present this work.'

O RUMO DO FUMO
Founded in 1999 by Vera Mantero and supported since then by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, O Rumo do Fumo is a creation, production, national and international tour managing, research, teaching and recently programming structure in the field of contemporary dance, which positions itself in an experimental and research artistic territory. Territory that also extend the field of dance and its horizons, characterized by the transversality of the artistic disciplines and where dance, music, theater, literature/poetry, visual arts and cinema intersect.
Since 2000 O Rumo do Fumo is responsible for the production of works by several artists with the aim of creating the necessary means for development and consolidation of their careers, providing a greater continuity of their works and facilitating opportunities for national and international touring.
O Rumo do Fumo built during its activity years a solid national and international network of contacts and partners (institutions, theaters and festivals) in four continents, with whom the structure maintains a regular activity through the projects by its artists. This network allowed to produce until 2012 a total of 93 new creations and 184 events (workshops, lectures, meetings, informal presentations, etc), showing 988 performances, 409 in Portuguese cities and 579 in foreign cities.
Since 2002 O Rumo do Fumo is a co-founder member of REDE – Association for Contemporary Dance in Portugal.
