The play ‘A Piece of Land between the River and Rocks’ was born in the encounter of the Ensemble Mirage from Belgrade and Specchi e Memorie from Milan, who supervised the process of work and the play’s finalisation. It was inspired by a collision of two themes – the theme of transience and the theme of beauty.

Transience. The age we live in. All the ages we have ever lived in. And this one in particular. The hollow times, times filled with needless needs and undesirable desires, the times of surface and inertia. There are no more heroes. The time has crashed great visions reducing them to marbles. Glassy, nice, but tragically insufficient. Just pieces of memories of a forgotten world. What are the images we see around us? What are the images we live within? Do they have power to take us over the river of unavoidability, the river of transience? One by one, we jump into the river, where we are lost forever. Without meaning, without will, with primeval questions within us, overwhelmed and drowned by waves. There is nothing more for us here...

This is how the story about people who seek and struggle for a different road was born. About the people who need not to see in order to believe. About the people who believe in creation... of life. Of a world. Of new dimensions and relationships. With everything in this world.

The Ensemble Mirage is an independent art group founded in 2007. The guiding idea of the group is theatrical work carried out through exploration of the topic of communication and possibilities of human emancipation, as well as anthropological and social limitations which hinder this process. It is aimed at using the theatre as a space of observation and exploration of reality, our attitude towards it and the exchange of the gained experiences. The Ensemble Mirage consists of director and actor Anđelka Vujinović, actors Tanja Stikić and Vera Jovanović, musician Dobroslav Predić, light engineer Branimir Živković and graphic designer and organiser Ana Humljan.

The Ensemble Mirage brought their first production ‘Nothing project’, which premiered in 2007, to the INFANT Festival in Novi Sad in June 2009, winning the Award for the Best Exploratory Segment of Performance. The play has also been staged at the festivals Faka in Zagrab and Transeuropa in Hildesheim in Germany.

Their second production ‘Islands Greener than a Dream’ premiered in 2010. It has been performed at the festivals Feist in Bielefeld, Germany, А Part – Transgressions in Katowice, Poland, as well as in Milan, Italy.

The third production ‘A Piece of Land between the River and Rocks’ premiered in Milan, Italy, in March 2012, and in the Cultural Centre Rex in Belgrade in May 2012.
